Two pets face life-threatening conditions. Chewy, a marmoset, is coughing up blood; his vet, Dr. Burgerer, treats him with antibiotics to avoid risky anesthesia and save him from a suspected infection. Meanwhile, Atlas, a rescue cat, is diagnosed with heartworms after a persistent cough. His new owner manages his condition with medication, providing him with a second chance at life. Both pets show significant improvement.

Three American veterinary clinics open their doors and bring viewers inside their world of animal rescue.
