Manta Rays are a threatened.
Due to overfishing, both legal and illegal, poor management of the marine environment, pollutants and climate change, these magestic creatures are threatened.
Manta gill-rakers are filters that the mantas use to filter sea water to get plankton and small crustaceans for food.
Mantas are found in warm temperate, subtropical and tropical waters and are prone to parasites.
Cleaner fish such as remoras suck onto mantas for transportation and use their mouths as shelter. They help to remove parasites from them.
They are not dangerous to humans. However, because of their size they may be frightening to some.
Although friendly, one can be injured by a Manta Ray if they swim too close to them and are bumbed by them when they are swimming at high speed or change direction suddenly.
