Presented here is Satie's orchestral short, incidental music composed in 1915 to accompany Jean Cocteau's production of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream".
These are five excesssively short glances in to the mind of Satie. His piano works were lovely, his orchestral work avant-garde, modern, a bit brash.
This was Satie's first collaboration with Cocteau and that partnership would continue with the ballet "Parade". This colaboration led to much of Satie's output later in life as he was introduced to Pablo Picasso, among others, and his interaction with other artists would help to shape the final years of Satie's composition.
This piece is performed by the Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, led by Michael Plasson
