After Crete, we spent 2 days on the island of Santorini (as known as Thera/Thira). We stayed in an Airbnb in Perissa by the black sand beaches. Although we were on the opposite side of the island from Oia, it's a small island so we could easily take a bus to Fira (the capital city) and then to Oia.
Oia was so gorgeous and I had dreamed of going there since I was young. I imagined what it would be like living there. Weaving through the paths up and down the cliff to run errands. Hanging clothes out to dry in the heat. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it), now it's over 90% hotels for tourists (which is the top industry on the island). Although Oia is very expensive, we were still able to find cheap gyros to eat. Thank goodness for gyros.
The black sand beaches were located right next to a dramatic cliffside and looked amazing. There were incredibly hot though so we ran as quickly as we could into the water.
