The Botafumeiro is the famous swinging thurible found in the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. As you see in the video, it is a metal censer suspended from chains, in which incense is burned during the worship service. Eight men, also known as tiraboleiros, are required to swing the massive Botafumeiro.

After the long journey on St James Way (the Camino de Santiago), Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in the last stop on the pilgrimage. The Botafumeiro is used to purify the air in the main nave of the Cathedral which is full of Pilgrims.
