This clip from the Family Guy episode "Christmas Is Coming" resonated with me very well.
It shows Santa Claus insulting the people of Long Island. Here's why I liked this clip.
I've had three friends - all of them Pokemon fans - from suburban Long Island betray me.
The first one turned against me because I called him out on liking a deviation on DeviantART that insulted me. The poster at the time was a few months off from turning 13, and thus was not very mature. But the Long Islander - then 15 - was loyal to her anyway. I stayed away from being friends with people under 13 for a while.
The second time was far worse. I befriended him on the aforementioned DeviantART, but he was far less friendly than he seemed at first. He emotionally tortured me when I said things he did not like. I took it at first. But one of the worst things he did was call me a stalker, for sharing many of the same interests as him. It got to the point where he finally blocked me, and when no one would help me fix the situation, I used multiple accounts in an attempt to reach out to him. I did not know at the time that was against dA rules, so I was removed from that site. I vowed I would never be anybody's bitch afterward, plus the song "Every Breath You Take" by the Police was completely ruined for me. Also I should say that he claimed to support law enforcement, yet his actions were not unlike those of a domestic abuser or a rapist (in fact I call what he and the first Long Islander did emotional rape), criminals who frequently get long prison sentences.
The first two were both males named Justin. I swore off those particular Long Islanders forever.
The next Long Islander I befriended was on the Serebii.net forums. She was a frequent poster in the Shipping section, and we bonded over the common interest. She seemed to be unlike the previous Long Islanders, and our friendship lasted for years. She even took that fact as a compliment when I mentioned my previous experience with Long Islanders to her. But early last year, she befriended several people who absolutely hate people with Asperger's syndrome, like me. I didn't say anything at first, but she kept ignoring my messages, and finally on her 27th birthday, she removed me from her friends list. This showed I was wrong about her.
That meant a ban on befriending ANY suburban Long Islander imposed by me. But I should tell you that I am Christian, and in December of 2019, while her family was Christmas shopping seemingly, her house caught fire, consuming everything within it. I saw that as God delivering justice for my ended friendship. But the worst part of it was that she got all kinds of sympathy on the forum, but no one supported me when I posted that my father was in poor health.
But the message remains clear. Associate with bigots and God will make sure at some point a huge tragedy befalls you. #GodHatesBigots
I am also a fan of the NHL team the Columbus Blue Jackets, and they share a division with the New York Islanders, As a result of my experiences I consider the Islanders my second-most hated division rival, behind the Pittsburgh Penguins.
I'm still a Pokemon fan myself, because I know that not all Pokemon fans are like that. But I am glad that Seth MacFarlane shares my views on Long Island. If you have the same views, don't be afraid to share them.
