Originally posted May 2, 2009. Tribute to composer/conductor Sanford Green (1914-2007). At a young age Mr. Green became a prolific song writer for musical short subjects. At the age of nineteen he became a staff composer for the short subjects division of a major studio, located in the old Vitagraph Studios on Avenue M in Brooklyn. He composed songs for more than 35 musical short subjects between 1934 and 1937. He worked as an arranger and musical director all his life, and has a son who is a theater conductor. Here are some of Sanford Greens film songs as they were originally performed. Appearing in film: Hal Le Roy, Mitzi Mayfair, Sylvia Froos, Georgie Price, Vicki Joyce, Toby Wing, Barry McKinley, Bobette Christine, Dorothy Dare, J. Harold Murray, Barbara Leonard, Mary Joan Martin, Sanford Green.
