These are all friends I have met on the trail, on the river or through Youtube. Some of them I'd not seen in a few years and others are a constant in my ongoing explorations.
Comes a time, everything ends, no one ever knew it was the last day they would take their old faithful childhood bike out for a cruise, meet up at the old tree house with the gang for the last time, go with friends to the arcade, fish with this guy or that one, or go backpacking with your friends FOR THE LAST TIME. It just happens and one day you look back and ask yourself, "how have so many years come and gone, between then and now?"
If you think about it, 2026 is just around the corner, 2020 seems like last year! The weeks go slow, the years add up fast. Much has changed in the past few years and there's no stability or plateau in sight. Today's uncertainties have us all scrambling and unfocussed, just as THEY want us to be. In this shape, there is NO untitled people, there is NO Harmoney, which allows comfort and feeling at ease. This causes divide, both in time and opinions. It creates barriers that prevent times like you see in this video.
Before we know it, it has been a few years, then a decade under our wheels. I have seen it play out many times and recognize it happening, so I try to keep the guys together now and then to prolong the inevitable. Today, (funny saying this, as it reminds me of an old cartoon from the 70s) But "in today's fast paced life," people have developed a numbness to life, a self-absorbed stare at a phone in their hand put up a fence, around them and they no longer realize how, time around them is not only continuing without them, but speeding up!
One day soon, many of them, many of YOU ALL, will look back and ask, "where did it all go?" It's not too late, call those friends, put the word in the street, Let's do it again like we did last summer! I wish you great success, and if our paths ever cross and we become friends, as long as I can still hike, fish, ride, skate, climb, keep a wary eye out for those ongoing invites.
Happy trails and a huge thank you to each and every one of the crew that showed up and took part. You are ALL like family and there is very little I would not do for any of you. Spacibo!
