October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. On Oct. 8, the San Diego Domestic Violence Council held an event to provide resources to victims and honor survivors.

The room was filled with advocates, support groups and victims. A candlelight vigil remembered those who have died from domestic violence.

District Attorney Summer Stephan said there’s been a 32% drop in domestic violence homicide since the county started a system to support victims. In 2023 San Diego recorded the lowest number in three decades. Five people lost their lives because of domestic violence that year. Stephan noted that is still too many.
