I've looked at Samsung DEX over Android Auto using the AutoPro X adapter, which allows pass-through touch support with the DEX desktop, however, since then, many have asked me whether it's possible to do this over HDMI. Samsung DEX does work over HDMI, but how well does it work on a CarPlay display?
I selected two HDMI to Carplay adapters - one from Ottocast (TV Mate Pro) and one from CarlinKit (HDMI to CarPlay Adapter). Although the CarlinKit failed to work with my modern CarPlay system, the other adapter from Ottocast had no problem running Samsung DEX over HDMI to my CarPlay display, using a Uni HDMI to USB cable connected to my Samsung. Overall, the experience was pretty decent. However, one downside will be that you will not have touch pass-through as you do on the wireless DEX from AutoPro X, meaning that you will have to use either a Bluetooth device such as a mouse or controller to control the DEX desktop or use the touchpad app on the Samsung phone. If you're willing to compromise on control input, then this method is a budget-friendly way to get DEX on your CarPlay display.
