There we go, 43m! I got the ideal 43m credit that I had in mind: 8m Stage 1, 14.5m Stage 2, 20.5m Stage 3. This run did exactly that, so I'm very satisfied.
I'm only 750k away from the highest known score (43,813,306) right now. Said score is really strong, and in order to beat it I will have to perform pretty much optimally on all three stages. My best stage scores so far are ~8,226,000 (accidentally reset the run so no exact score, sadly), 14,541,960 and 20,946,740, which add up to 43,714,700. If I get 100k better than these stage PBs on a single run then that's it, but it'll be very tough to do so. I will definitely try it, but I'll just see how consistent I can get and by how much my score can still be increased. 44m may or may not be possible, and if it all possible, it will require (almost?) absolute perfection, including good luck on the boss movement RNG to get better speedkills.
I got 42m a short while after I uploaded the 40.5m run, and from there it took quite a while before I got 43m. I had five potential runs that I lost to really stupid misses, and in total I put in more credits than what I needed to get from my old 35m to 42m. Dat difficulty scaling!
My improvements over the 40.5m run that I uploaded include consistently hitting 8m on Stage 1, thanks to an improved stage and boss route, getting more items even though it makes the shot weaker (and it seems to be impossible to have max power at the boss), performing better on the Stage 2 and 3 stage portions, and improving my speedkills on mostly the Stage 2 boss, although I've also improved the final boss green laser pattern (which I did a bit slower than usual here, however, due to accidentally shielding the second pattern too much). I collect more items and also get more x16 bonuses on enemies across the whole run; for instance I now collect x16 bonuses from the missiles on the Stage 1 midboss as well as the Stage 2 boss.
In short, I'll be attempting to get closer to / beat the highest known score in this game, and hopefully I'll succeed!
