For the Salted Maple Peanut Butter Banana Soft Serve recipe, click here: uhn.ca/PrincessMargaret/PatientsFamilies/Specialized_Program_Services/Pages/Recipe.aspx?rID=795
This month we were joined by Cassandra Macaulay, Chief Research Officer from the Colorectal Cancer Resource and Action Network (CCRAN).
This class focused on practical cooking strategies for people experiencing side-effects after colorectal surgery, including those living with an ostomy.
We focused on:
- Foods and meal patterns that are generally better tolerated during diarrhea or high output
- Emphasis on hydration, sodium, and potassium-containing foods
- Lower-fat meal options, which may be better tolerated for those experiencing bile acid diarrhea
- Gentle, lower-irritant meals that still provide adequate calories and protein
