The original "Salt your sugar blues" song is more commonly known as
"Sugar Blues," written in 1919 by Clarence Williams (music) and Lucy Fletcher (lyrics). It was first recorded by Leona Williams and Her Dixie Band in 1922, though it became most popular in 1936 as trumpeter Clyde McCoy's instrumental theme song featuring a growling wah-wah mute.
