The Citadel in Cairo, also known as the Citadel of Saladin, is a large Islamic and military complex in Cairo, Egypt. Its construction was originally begun by Salah ad-Din in 1176 and was continued by subsequent Egyptian rulers. It was the seat of government in Egypt for almost 700 years. Two of the popular mosques we visited in The Citadel were the Muhammad Ali Mosque, also known as the Alabaster Mosque, which features a beautiful clock tower in the courtyard and a stunning interior, and the Sultan Al-Nasir Muhammad Ibn Qalawan Mosque, known for its imposing green dome.
