#1 “On September 20, 2025, troopers responded to a report of a beached vessel near Sea Girt Beach in Sea Girt Borough, Monmouth County. Upon their arrival, troopers observed a 30-foot sailboat that had run aground on its port side. The vessel’s owner was advised to refloat the vessel in a timely manner. On October 20, 2025, the vessel’s owner was issued a summons for abandoning the vessel. The incident remains under investigation, and no additional information is available.” -New Jersey State Police
#2 A local official tells Darias News: “We’re reviewing our options” including the possibility of obtaining a grant to pay for the removal of the sailboat. “Snow fencing” might be placed around the vessel.

UPDATE 10-16-25, Sources tell Darias News the attempt to get the sailboat to sea will be abandoned. The cost of repairing the rudder and the seaworthiness of the Catalina 30 were cited as the primary concerns. Details about removing the sailboat and costs are being worked out.

The sailboat that washed ashore in Sea Girt, New Jersey began its fourth week stuck in the sand. As a storm approached the Jersey Shore, Darias News was there to document what happened from late Friday afternoon to early Sunday afternoon (October 10 - October 12). It remains unclear when Lawrence Kaehler will reach Cocoa Beach, near his home in Central Florida.
