This is the seventy-first in a series of videos in which I engage in some storytelling about my own personal experiences, relationships, realizations, and life. Sometimes these might connect with my profession as a philosopher, but often that won't be the case.
In this video, I discuss the group of people I hung out with, became friends with, and even later went along as security to help them fence stolen items back when I was in high school. There was a core to this group of burnouts, mostly people who were older than me, and in classes that graduated before mine, who called themselves "Midnight Sales And Services". Their motto was "If you want it, we can get it. If you've got it, we can get it." They mostly broke into cars to steal stereos, radar detectors, and other similar items, but would occasionally steal other things as well, including breaking into train cars.
I tell the story of how I met some of the guys involved in this group early on my freshman year in study hall. I was already acquainted with a few of them because they were on the fencing team, which I joined early on, so I started hanging out with them, getting in with them pretty quickly when one of the guys they let hang out with them tried to bully me, and I pushed back. We would do a lot of stuff together over my highschool years, and I kept in touch with some of them afterwards. We skipped classes to go eat off campus, went to concerts, bonfires, and parties, stayed at each other's places, and engaged in some criminal activity, which for me was largely confined to going along as muscle or security when they were selling stolen goods in Milwaukee
