Mr. Stewart, a high school teacher collects beverage containers to redeem for the nickel deposit. He donates the money from the deposits to the Smile Train. His students help out and bring beverage containers to school every week. Sadie, one of his students, has found a unique way to help. Every week, she collects empty water containers from the store where she works . They give customers water in plastic containers- but there is no place for the customers to place the empties, except the trash! These water containers are recyclable- and the best part is that here in New York- we get a nickel back for each one we redeem!! Sadie says she does it because it helps the Earth, the children get to have cleft pallet surgery and are happier, and because it is good Karma.
