Am minor Guitar Backing Track - Sad Melodic Rock Ballad, Slow Jam in A minor
After releasing the slow ballad in G major last month, I'd had quite a bit of feedback from who people who really enjoyed the change of pace to what I normally do. A minor seems to be a popular key, and for those who generally enjoy the sad, slow and melodic style of jam track. I'd also been experimenting with improving my overall recording sound. (See below for write up on the recording). In addition, I've also recorded the same thing in two different keys (G minor and B minor), I'll release them down the road.
This one is also an experiment in length. Typically my backing tracks coming in between 5 and 7 minutes. This one is over 9 minutes! The idea is that you don't keep getting interrupted by the track ending!
I really loved the sound I'd managed to get a while back on some of the other sad + melodic ballads, basically by layering different guitars on top of each other. I have the Marshall (OD channel Orange) both hard left and right. I have clean with a nice amount of chorus, reverb and delay too. To top that off, I played two tracks on my acoustic guitar recorded by a Rode NT1-A mic into a ART Tube Pre-amp. Both pieces of equipment sound great for their price point. The only thing that could have made this sound better was new strings on the acoustic! (Yeah, they were getting a little old!)
The bass on this recording is of particular interest, it came from my amp clean, but I added some heat on the tube pre-amp, and then ran it through the exciter to bring out some lower frequencies, especially those upper mids that are sometimes lost in a recording. A little bit of saturation and it seems like I just made the bass seem twice the size! If anyone else has any tips to recording huge bass sounds that doesn't over power everything else, let me know!
I also added a fade out at the end. Yes, I know. There should have been fade outs from day one, and it's such a trivial thing - I'm not sure why I neglected them. I had a few comments how people didn't like the tracks just 'ending', all of a sudden. Going forward they'll all have a nice and friendly fade out :)
The chord rotation is
Am - Dm/A - Am - G/B - Am - Dm/A - G/C (then a B passing note back to the beginning)
