In November 1988 Elton John went in the studio to record his 22nd album Sleeping With The Past (1989). The album was recorded in the famous Puk Studios in Denmark which recently burned down eventually forcing the studio to move to new facilities . The hit single on the album, Sacrifice, was Elton John's first solo number one in the UK and was a big succes in Europe. In America it was a more moderat success peaking at number 18. Recently, the song was sampled in the top ten hit Cold Heart featuring Dua Lipa.
The song has been featured in live sets on and off since its release both with the band and solo. This version is inspired by the solo versions around 2004/2005.
