Recently leaked, Sacred Pools is an unreleased interactive FMV game by SegaSoft. It was due for release on Saturn as well as PC, PSX and Mac. The game had a high budget for the time (approx. £3m) and was to be an adult only erotic thriller. Retro Dad and Modern Lad has stated on his video that this is actually the same game as the Rebellion Demo which he has previously covered, which certainly seems to be the case.
This build features 3 discs and seems to cover the whole of the games story and areas. It's still quite buggy, I had a number of crashes, although this session is about an hour of uninterrupted play without any crashes. It felt like the scripting for events was unfinished, and I didn't manage to complete any of the puzzles. The different discs cover different parts of the game world, so as you move around there is some disc swapping that needs to be done. Unusually, when it prompts you to swap discs, you reboot to the bios (or Pseudo Saturn Cart in my case) when you open the disc tray, but upon loading it throws you right back into the gameplay. The constant disc swapping did get tiring, maybe worth using some sort of ODE for this one. The problem was the fairly compact areas and regularity of disc swapping. Riven, by comparison, did require area based disc swapping but it wasnt ever too much of an inconvenience because the areas covered by each disc were quite large. I also experienced some fairly insignificant audio skipping, the discs I used are Taiyo Yuden's so this probably mitigates the issue somewhat. Saving seems to work, though I haven't tried loading my save file yet. I found it difficult to keep on top of what was going on and this certainly seems to be an incomplete build (unsurprising considering it was cancelled before release). The game mechanics centre around exploring and picking up items for restoring health and crystals. The crystals appear central to the story but I couldn't figure out the mechanics of these. At the end of it all, I somehow got to a credits scene after being seemingly killed by an enemy, maybe some kind of bad ending awarded for dying too many times.

Running on real hardware using a Pseudo Saturn Cart to run burned discs. Output via an RGB SCART cable, run through an OSSC and recorded with a USB capture device. The recording software used is OBS.

Better to Download the newer build though. The game is much more stable and the events seem better scripted
