Turns out this route is faster for M2 as well! This is also the first time we finish this mission in Rouge's section too!
There are exactly 104 rings on the path, so you can afford to miss 4 of them. I missed four at the bottom of the verticle tunnel in this run since you are essentially blind as the camera doesn't cooperate properly, but luckily there are 8 rings here in total so you don't need to pick them all up, assuming you collect all the rings in Tails's and Rouge's sections!
This is a great run but 35 is definitely possible and maybe even 34 on GC.
