SJS Classics - Bonzi Likes The Sharp X68000 (2024 Edit) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2024-04-11 | Bonzi Buddy, now available for your Sharp X68000! :grimacing:Song number 2 from my 2018 album "Make Some Noise!" I seem to recall wanting an excuse to use the infamous Bonzi Buddy voice in a song when I learned of its reputation, although the voices were done with Speakonia. And yes, those are the drums you'd find in the default Roland/Microsoft Wavetable Synth DLS soundfont included in every Windows computer.All I did in this 2024 edition is just change the PCM chip from the SegaPCM to the OKI MSM6258 to make this song a true Sharp X68000 tune. Since this does make the samples sound louder, the volume of the FM instruments were increased to compensate for this change. I also altered one of the echo channels by making it into a panbrello so that its easier on your ears.Replacing the recording of this song in my album "Make Some Noise!" will also mean needing to re-record the other songs to match up with the volume level of my current songs.Bonzi Likes The Sharp X68000, ©2018-2024 SuperJet Spade

Furnace Dev196 Tests - GBA & Nintendo DS Systems SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2024-03-21 | What's this? Actual GBA and Nintendo DS in Furnace? Yes, folks. In a future release of Furnace, you will be able to make music for the GBA and NDS. These two systems were introduced in a recent development build of Furnace (dev196, in this case). For the GBA, Furnace will support both the FIFO PCM channels found on the GBA's DMA hardware (2 channels) and a driver called MinMod. This driver was developed by Natt Akuma, which allows up to 16 software-mixed channels while using as little CPU and memory as possible on the GBA. And for NDS, I simply wanted to make use of the PSG features (pulse widths and noise, which are only found in channels 9 to 16) in some way in addition to using the PCM capabilities of its sound chip. SJS Classics - Highway 6502 (2024 Edit) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2024-03-16 | One of three "Roadway CPU" tunes I made in 2018. This uses drum samples I took directly from one of the songs in the Amiga version of Fury of the Furries.I basically swapped around the channels to reflect my current channel setup (drum and bass in the earliest channels, lead next, then chords or backing instruments, and finally echoes). I also redid the stereo panning in few places so that it's easier on the ears. The noise frequency was also changed to account for having access to the full frequency range of the PCE sound chip's noise generator.Fun fact: this was one of the first songs I did after I decided to learn a bit of music theory, though the compositional style I did for this song I would end up reusing for many songs I did in 2018.Highway 6502, ©2018-2024 SuperJet Spade

I think this was one of three songs I did in 2018 where I wanted to take the letters of the name of an FM chip, and then combine it with a random word. SJS Classics - Tree Saplings Root (2024 Edit) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2024-03-03 | Recently, I have been enjoying and appreciating my old original tunes from 2017 to 2018, likely because I moved on from a lot of negativity I had encountered online between 2017 and 2020 following the upload of my "disowned" collection of songs. I did decide to only make volume optimizations to these old original songs and (if I feel like it) tuning them higher/lower as well as decreasing/increasing the tempo a bit. Expect more of these SJS Classic tunes in the coming days to this channel.Also, I seem to recall thinking of Groot (specifically adult Groot from the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie) when I was making this song in 2018. I do have an action figure of that character, which I "OCified" by giving him a scarf. Not only did I lose the respect I once had for them, but I also deleted the modules to these covers out of absolute sadness (I was already going through doubts of my musical abilities during this time), and only my Atari 2600/7800 cover of Agent X survived because I used my FMComposer cover after being inspired by VinsCool's Atari 2600/7800 cover of Chronos (they covered the song by ear, by the way).The module to the PCE Remake of Beginning of the Journey is lost to time because I deleted it out of frustration after listening to how some folks reacted to a comment I made about it in a live stream in 2020.The reason why the Magical Block Carat tune is here is because there was a point in my life where I wasn't sure if I wanted to listen to songs from any eroge type game. I was once told by two different folks that I was missing out on amazing songs "with that attitude" I had in 2018-2019. I do listen to songs from a few eroge type games now. I just prefer to not see an NSFW image of an animated female character while doing so.For version 2 of the my cover of the Jungle tune from Contra, I replaced the drum samples from the PCE port of Parodius Da with a kick and snare I've been using since 2019. In hindsight, though, I think version 1 sounds better than version 2.The composition of Wood Man here is based on the Wily Wars version of the song. At the time I did version 1 of this cover in 2018, I prefered the Wily Wars version of tune to that of the original NES version, and I remember being told that there were many mistimed notes here. I do prefer the original NES version now, and version 2 of this cover is based on that one: youtu.be/QpnBG4DKeO0?feature=shared&t=260The song "Original C64 Loader Theme #2" was the first time I had actual critique towards any song I made up to that point in 2018. Because of how I was at the time, I ended up taking it personally and took a break. In fact, I couldn't enjoy listening to any songs for a while, because I focused too much on how they were structured. The GoatTracker module to this song is lost to time.I had to do a lot of volume optimization on the RoboCop 3 song I did back in 2017. One criticism I remember from it was that the lead was too loud.The Stone Tower Temple tune (which I actually did in 2016, one of my earliest DefleMask tunes. I often forget about some of my ealiest DefleMask tunes from 2016, hence the "2017" shown in this video) has had a bunch of notes properly timed, but I don't really consider it one of my best works.Oh boy, where do I begin with the Daddy Mulk tune? Cabbage Cavern is a remix of the forest theme from the NES game Kirby's Adventure. Silver Submarine is a remix of Kine's theme from the GB game Kirby's Dream Land 2. Spectacle Space is a remix of the final boss theme that's also from the NES game Kirby's Adventure.

Spades Archive Tunes - The Pre-Chiptune Collection (2014-2017) Part 1 SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2023-05-25 | If you've followed me for a while on my main channel, or if you've seen me talk on Discord, I have mentioned that I used to use some music making apps on iPad before making chiptunes in 2016. I used to be afraid to share these songs because I thought many folks would say they were terrible. However, I look back at these tunes now as a way of how far I have come since making this my hobby in 2014 (that was 9 years prior to the upload of this video, wow!). All these tunes are dated between 2014 and 2017 (now that I think about it, calling this era my "pre-chiptune era" is kind of a misnomer, since I still used music making apps on iPad through 2016, though I did abandon them by the end of 2017. But, I digress). The apps I used during these times were Auxy (both the classic and current version), Beatwave, Music Maker JAM, and Medly Music Maker.Some things to point out: As far as I know, Music Maker JAM relies on pre-recorded loops for users to make music, so some of the songs might trigger YouTube's content match (I don't monetize both my channels anyway). Some songs were recorded recently, directly from my iPad while also playing them live to either recall what I wanted to do with them, make sense of what I put, or record versions of songs I never did. A few of these songs were previously uploaded to my main channel. Some song names make sense, while some I had pulled out of my head randomly (though I did change a few song names to make a bit more sense), and others were generated through Beatwave's gimmick of randomly giving your new song a name.This is part 1. FΛDE - Out in the Open (Cover, Alternate Tuning) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2023-02-16 | This is just an alternate version of my cover of Out in the Open by FΛDE on one of my three fantasy sound systems I briefly explored last year. OPL3 4OP Test Tune SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2023-01-28 | As most of you know, the YMF262/OPL3 has 18 channels of 2OP FM synthesis, and it has a nifty feature where it can combine up to twelve of those channels to make six 4OP channels. Before Furnace, AdLib Tracker II was the only OPL3 tracker to support this feature. Now, we have Furnace that also supports OPL3's 4OP mode (OpenMPT emulates OPL3 since December 2018, but it doesn't support this feature). I used this feature for the percussion and chords. It's quite powerful stuff, especially since its extra waveforms can allow it to make some unique sounds compared to Yamaha's FM chips in the OPN series (though there is a limited number of algorithms available for OPL3's 4OP mode).If you'd like the module to this song, you can find it in my Discord server: discord.gg/u2ErgB3J3J
Delek - El Diego (SJS Remix, Neo Geo) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2023-01-14 | So, I believe I need to give context behind this:"El Diego" is a DefleMask demo song created by Delek, and is included with DefleMask since the release of v1.x.x in April 2021. The release included the long-awaited Neo Geo (though released as payware instead of freeware), and this demo song happened to be for the Neo Geo. The song is named after a famous Argentinian soccer/football player. In September 2021, there was a wave of covers that happened, which was likely started by Mahbod Karamoozian, DeMOSic, and MegaSparky. This was much like the FamiCommodore cover craze of 2019. The covers kept coming and going up until around February 2022.My version I did in July 2022, well after the wave of covers. Now, of course, the original song was already done on Neo Geo, but I wanted to put my own spin on it. I used Furnace, which includes the YM2610 with the variable ADPCM channel (DefleMask lacks this ADPCM channel, making it more like Neo Geo CD). I used the variable ADPCM channel to play piano chords. My remix is slightly based on Esteban Trujillo's C64 remix (youtu.be/a-CFhb7G4Qs), which a few changes, and it loops rather than it ending. Being the first SNES thing I did in Furnace, I decided to fulfill I thought I had in 2014 by porting this song from the 2008 Nintendo DS game Club Penguin: Elite Penguin force, using samples straight from the original module. maak - Breeze 2608 (FM Towns Port, Alternate Version) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2022-06-21 | So, when I was originally porting this song to the FM Towns using Furnace, one of the lead patches had its 4th operator disabled. This made me think that it was intended to sound like how it did in the song I linked in the description in the my upload of it in my main channel (youtu.be/omd1cNnexx4), so I set the TL value of the operator to match how it sounded in the BambooTracker module. However, I discovered (thanks to someone bringing it up in a Discord server) that in maak's original recording, said operator of said lead patch was actually enabled. Thus, here is an alternate version of my FM Towns port of Breeze 2608 with one of the lead patches sounding closer to maak's original recording. YM2610B Test (Unreal Tournament - Run) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2022-03-16 | What is the YM2610B? This is the same chip as the YM2610, but with two extra FM channels. From a discussion I saw a while back in a Discord server, when Yamaha made the YM2610 (developed from the YM2608), they disabled FM channels 1 and 4 so that it wouldn't undercut the YM2203 that was still being used for the PC-88 and 98 computers. The chip was notably used in the Neo Geo arcade and home console. At some point, Taito was kind enough to pay Yamaha to get a version of the chip with all 6 FM channels. Thus, the YM2610B was exclusively used by Taito for their arcade systems.I decided to try this chip out by porting this song I originally covered in BambooTracker (a PC-98 tracker). All FM patches I used my original version of this cover were recreated manually. I think this cover sounds a lot better with the percussion from the original song (which was an IT module). Because this is a development build of Furnace, I will share the module to this song on my Discord server once the creator (tildearrow) released the next major version of the program (v0.6): discord.gg/u2ErgB3J3JSide note: In Furnace, by default, the SSG channels are labeled "PSG," and the sample channels labeled as "ADPCM-A 1-6" (for the non-variable channels) and "ADPCM-B" (for the channel that allows a variable rate for samples). Since Furnace has the ability to add custom names to the sound channels, I decided to label the aforementioned channels based on how foobar2000's VGMPlay component and in_vgm labels them (in this case, "SSG," "ADPCM 1-6," and "Delta-T").
GBA-esque Music in Furnace (Zone 66 - Hell Level Cover) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2022-02-16 | With Furnace, something like this is now possible. Using the SegaPCM from the Arcade system (or Amiga system) and the Game Boy system can allow you to make GBA-esque tunes. The quality of samples I used may not reflect what the samples sounded like in many of GBA games that use the Sappy driver, but it is somewhat reminiscent of the GBA games that use the GAX driver (such as the Iridion games or those with soundtracks composed by Martin Schioeler). Admittedly, I'm not the first to use the combination of the SegaPCM and Game Boy soundchips, as Michirin had already done this in one of her covers back in 2015 (youtu.be/yD_vJgZxsU0), though she used two instances of DefleMask and lowered the quality of her samples accordingly.Song is from the DOS game Zone 66, originally composed by Kenny Chou. Furnace Chiptune Tracker Test (Tempest 2000 - Title Screen AY-3-8910+TIA Cover) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2022-02-08 | This was the first song I did in the Furnace chiptune tracker, created about two weeks prior to the upload of the video. I covered this song to try out the multi-system feature and to ask myself the question, "What if an Atari 7800 game had an AY chip in its cartridge?" As some of you might know, two Atari 7800 games that were released commercially back in the day had a POKEY chip inside them, as the console can accept additional audio chips thanks to some additional pins Atari added to the cartridges (though it made them more expensive to manufacture). I picked the AY-3-8910 chip. Spades Archive Tunes - Christmas Trip ft. Tobikomi & CryoKitsune (Chiptune Cafe Decemberfest 2018) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2021-12-10 | Well, here is a song that I never uploaded until now. I actually meant to upload this song sometime in early 2019, after the stream to this jam (Chiptune Cafe Winter Jam 2018, alternatively Decemberfest) ended. I forgot, then was caught up in other projects, and kept forgetting. I finally decided to upload this once and for all to my second channel. This was a three-way collab between me, Tobikomi, and CryoKitsune back in December 2018, and was my first ever collab on an original song. Now, this version is heavily edited from the original that was sent to the aforementioned jam in 2018. For the parts I did, I simply applied my current stereo panning shenanigans to the backing chords, which I also changed from quads to triads. I also decided to change some of my patches I used to go along with those made by Tobikomi, and I also altered the percussion in the beginning for the sake of consistency through the entire song. Tobikomi's parts stayed mostly intact, save for replacing his one of his patches with my own and changing a channel he reserved for a percussion into a second echo channel for the leads. I altered CryoKitsune's parts quite a lot, notably the ending where I changed the timing of the notes to be more on-beat, chose notes that sounded best for the part, changed one of the patches, and added an echo for that patch. Mario Kart DS Kiosk Demo - SEQ_CIRCUIT2, but I Converted it to MIDI and Edited it Afterwards SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2021-11-20 | The famous "SEQ_CIRCUIT2" tune from the kiosk demo version of Mario Kart DS. As many of you will already know, this song was used as a placeholder for the tracks that didn't have their music yet, and it doesn't exist in the final version of Mario Kart DS. I happened to stumble upon the soundtrack of the Mario Kart DS Kiosk Demo ripped to 2SF on a Saturday, and found that this song was there. I used VGMTrans to convert it to MIDI, and then I edited the song in the Domino MIDI Sequencer. Seems like many of the songs had used more channels in the kiosk demo version, though it led to some of the samples being cut off by the sound effects.Song was composed by Shinobu Tanaka.
I Edited More Mario Kart DS Music I Converted to MIDI a While Back SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2021-11-13 | I decided to edit some more of Mario Kart DS's music that I converted to MIDI a while back with VGMTrans, most of which are the game's retro grand prix tracks. GCN Luigi Circuit uses two samples for the whistle instrument, with one sounding like a slide was baked into the sample itself while the other didn't. Unlike the chord stabs in Mushroom Ridge, I wasn't able to approximate the slide for the whistle, so I had that sliding sample play at the correct notes in the converted MIDI. The instruments in Yoshi Falls were interesting. The "bass" in the song is actually two percussion samples that's being played like a bass instrument, and the drums are similar to what was used in Desert Hills. For the converted MIDI, I ended up correcting the bass notes and improvising the percussion (though one of the instruments I used for the bass will sound off if played with another soundfont). I Converted a few Songs From Mario Kart DS to MIDI and Edited Them Afterwards SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2021-10-08 | A while back, I used VGMTrans to convert the music files from Mario Kart DS to MIDI. Just for fun, I decided to spend the last two days altering a few of the converted songs with the Domino MIDI sequencer, using instruments that I felt were close to the samples used in the original versions. The percussion took some time to figure out, as the conversion process gave them MIDI instrument 128 (Gunshot), though the shaker in Peach Gardens was given MIDI instrument 24 (Tango Accordion/Bandoneon). I gave the percussion in Desert Hills those that are different to the original song, as I currently don't know of any soundfont with samples like what the original song had. In the song Mushroom Ridge, the chord stab in the original version has its downpitch baked into the sample itself, so the downpitching was recreated manually in the converted MIDI file. Finally, Rainbow Road had a sample that sounded like two notes were one octave apart, so I made sure to add those "baked-in notes" to the converted MIDI. As these songs were converted from Nintendo DS 2SF files and then heavily altered afterwards, these of course wouldn't get accepted to VGMusic (not that I would want to submit any covers there so as to avoid a thing known as "MIDI-slapping").Soundfont used: GeneralUser GS by S. My 2020 Roland SCVA Songs With Replaced Instruments SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2021-09-24 | These are songs I made throughout 2020 that used the Roland SCVA VST, which I got rid of some weeks ago since it wasn't a legit copy. What I decided to do was that, since I used OpenMPT to compose these songs, I replaced what were previously VST instruments with samples from a soundfont. Some instrument effect plugins (namely a reverb and an echo plugin) were used to approximate whatever setting I used in the VST, though I also decided to use some in-tracker effect commands that had no effect on the VST instruments. This was done to make the modules of these songs accessible to anyone (as I'm sure most folks probably don't have Roland SCVA). Genocide 2: Master of the Dark Communion - Drains ~Stage 2-1~ (Nintendo SNES/SFC Cover) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2021-09-13 | SPC of this song available in my Discord server: discord.gg/u2ErgB3J3JThis cover was made back in March of 2021, using some samples I haven't used since 2018. This cover is based on the Sharp X68000 version of Genocide 2: Master of the Dark Communion. Composers were Hideyuki Shimono and Naoyuki Kimura. I'm pretty sure that if this game were ported to the SNES and released in North America back in the 90s, it probably would've had a different name due to Nintendo of America's strict guidelines on what could or could not be shown during that time period. Such guidelines caused some SNES games to be released under a different name, and some of their content (including sprites and their interactions with either an object or another sprite) were changed or removed. Sometimes, the game would be reskinned or re-themed entirely (e.g. Panel de Pon vs Tetris Attack).(Side note: I covered this song before finding out that there was a version of Genocide 2 for the SNES, released only in Japan.)

The Meme Squad - Defected Facewear VRC7 Cover (Minor Fix) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2021-06-18 | This is a song I covered back in 2018. Original song was made by the collaborative efforts of Pegmode, Tobikomi, kqa (Quirby64), and JRH. Shortly after I uploaded this cover, I realized that I missed a note, which first plays at around the 1 minute and 15 second mark. The module I have for the original song didn't have this note. I remember following its development that year over on the Meme Squad Discord server (now called the Chiptune Café), and I believe that note was added before it was posted on Battle of the Bits. I added this missing note sometime in 2019. In 2020, I decided to swap around the channels on the VRC7. The original composers intended on "destroying" DefleMask's SID exporter with this song, and I decided to cover it on VRC7 to cause further "destruction."The audio was also recorded from Dn-FamiTracker v3.0.0. This FamiTracker fork has a different emulation core for the VRC7, so you can hear how this song has been affected by that. At least one of the custom patches is a little off, but I do like how the saxophone patch sounds with this emulation core. Damp Earthy Cavern Version 2 (Atari POKEY and NES/Famicom) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2021-06-07 | Made sometime in July 2018, this was my first original song where it was pointed out to me of how an aspect of the song sounded similar to the original songs I made before it, specifically with the bassline. I took the user's suggestion and altered the bassline, and I took it into consideration for my future songs. A year later, in November 2019, I decided to remake the song in FamiTracker using the N163 expansion chip. Like with Moonlight Mountains and Ice Crystal Cavern, I decided to change the sequence of notes in the lead at some points. In tandem, I applied these changes to the original POKEY version of the song. Moonlight Mountains Version 2 (Genesis, PC Engine, and Master System) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2021-06-07 | This is the song that got me into composing original chiptune music. It was originally composed in July 2017 under my older username of JetStar1997. A stereo Sega PSG version of the song was also made a short time after. In September 2018, I remade the song on the PC Engine under my previous username of Wavetable Guy. Here, I decided to make some compositional changes to the song, including altering and reducing the intro, incorporating elements from RigidatoMS's cover of the same song (youtu.be/ufdCaHzfCnw), as well as changing up the sequence of the lead in some parts of the song. In March 2021, by which I already adopted my current username, I decided to apply those changes I made in the PC Engine version to the original Genesis and Sega PSG versions. Sonic 3 & Knuckles - The Doomsday Zone PCE Cover (Minor Fix) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2021-05-28 | Just to note that this isn't littlelamp100's cover that's included with DefleMask. This is something that I should've done about two and a half years ago. It was pointed out to me by a comment that there was an incorrect note at around 31 and 44 seconds of the song. This minor mistake has been corrected. Why it took me this long to upload a minor fix? At the time I uploaded this cover on my main channel in August 2018, I was going through the thought of my musical abilities not being great (see the description of my original song Highway Rush Rewritten for more context), so I ended up taking that comment about the incorrect note personally and pretty much putting it off to the side. E-FamiTracker Test (v0.0.1.3) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2021-03-24 | Simply trying out this recent fork of FamiTracker by taking an original and cover I've done with j0CC-FamiTracker and Dn-FamiTracker, and changing them up a bit to make use of the features introduced in E-FT.What makes this FamiTracker fork different from the previous ones?The changes are only on the 2A03. There's an extra pulse width (37.5%), the third channel has three waveforms that can be chosen (sawtooth, 50% square, and a sine) in addition to the triangle wave, and there are more noise pitches. This basically transforms the 2A03 into some fantasy chip, so songs made here cannot be played back on a real NES or Famicom. It's quite interesting, though.The info above applies to E-FT v0.0.1.3. Versions after this have put this fantasy chip as its own system separate from the 2A03, and E-FamiTracker has become a multi-system chiptune tracker (similar to DefleMask, but with a large focus on 8-bit chips).(Update 5/21/2022: I have removed the link to E-FamiTracker. Spades Archive Tunes - Twigs & Rocks (Scrapped Album, September 2018) SJS Test Tunes, Sketches, and Other Stuff 2021-03-14 | Another album from my archive of tunes. This time, it's an album I scrapped in September 2018.For me to tell you why this was scrapped in September 2018, I'll start by going back two months prior. In July 2018, I uploaded an original song on my main channel titled "Highway Rush." I thought it was a good song, and some users liked it. About a day or two after uploading that song, someone made some comments about how Highway Rush had similar melodies and other stuff used in many of the songs I made prior to it. For the sake of their own privacy, I won't mention the name of this individual user. They said those comments in a non-constructive way, so I ended up blocking them temporarily since 2018 me hadn't received such comments like those before. However, sometime after I blocked them, I began to notice that the stuff they said about Highway Rush and the prior songs were kind of right. So, I took their comments to heart (as 2017 and 2018 me would do) and started to dislike Highway Rush and all the songs I made before it. Since I noticed the similar melodies being heard in many of the songs in Twigs & Rocks, I decided that it was best for me to scrap it entirely (though I have since released two of the songs on their own, since they sounded pretty decent to me). It's been more than a year since I moved on from this, and I figured that I would upload what was completed. It's interesting how my style has drastically changed since scrapping this album.At the time I was making this album, I hadn't discovered Matt Furniss's SMS works as I was only familiar with his work on the Genesis/MegaDrive. Thus, I composed the songs using a scale that allowed me to use slightly lower square bass notes, though some songs do use the periodic noise pulse. The system I chose for this album is the Sega Game Gear. The idea for this album was an imaginary game I had in my head, just like Wavetable Guy's 1st Soundtrack. This time, there was a story I imagined for this one. It revolved around two brothers; one named Twigs and the other named Rocks. Twigs is tall and lean, and solves things by logic with a laid back personality. Rocks is buff and muscular, and tends confront things head on with passionate fury.
