Jackie Schomburg-Abstract Art & Creative Wellnessđ Welcome to Part 2 of the Mixed Media Art Party! đ¨ In this video, Iâm collaborating once again with my talented friend and fellow artist, Jackie Bernardi @PaintedPaperStudio ! Yesterday (in Part 1), we had a blast painting intuitive collage papers together via Zoomâand today, weâre diving into the next layer of creative play: using those handmade collage papers to build new abstract mixed media art!
Please join us in our respective studios as we create together! Watch as we each explore intuitive collage techniques, layer by layer, letting go of perfection and embracing process-based creativity. Youâll see us tear, arrange, glue, and paint âfollowing curiosity over outcome. This is the heart of intuitive art-making: trusting the process, experimenting freely, letting the work evolve with each step, and having fun the whole time.
Whether youâre just beginning your mixed media journey or youâre craving inspiration to loosen up and try something new, this video is full of real-time creative energy, laughter, and zero-pressure fun.
Grab your own collage papers, turn up the volume, and come create with us! We will be here, chatting with you during the LIVE premieres on both days! Let's get this party started!

#CreativeHealing #WomenArtistsOnYouTube #ArtWithFriends #IntrovertFriendlyCreativity #braveart #bebrave #keepshowingup #beyourselfHow to Build a Creative Habit with Easy Sketchbook Pages + RepetitionJackie Schomburg-Abstract Art & Creative Wellness2025-08-31 | Learn how repetition makes sketchbook practice simple, fun, and stress-freeâstart a daily creative habit without overthinking or fancy supplies.
Starting a sketchbook or daily art practice doesnât have to be overwhelming or complicated. In this video, Iâll show you how using simple repetition can reduce decision fatigue, lower the barrier to entry, and make creativity feel easy and fun. You donât need fancy supplies, special paper, or hours of free timeâjust a notebook, a few basic materials, and a willingness to play.
I demonstrate how I use my everyday notebook (yes, even lined paper!) to create playful patterns with nothing more than paint, a brush, and even a stack of Post-it notes. By repeating basic shapes like orbs and squares, youâll see how quickly a page can come alive. This easy sketchbook idea works for beginners, returning artists, or anyone feeling creatively stuck.
The beauty of repetition is that it takes the pressure off. Instead of overthinking âwhat should I make?â you can simply show up, repeat a shape, and let the joy of the process carry you forward. Over time, this builds confidence, momentum, and a rewarding creative habit.
If youâve ever struggled with perfectionism, self-doubt, or getting started, this video will inspire you to embrace simplicity and rediscover the fun of making art.

Just a tray, tissue paper, parchment, and a little prep. Letâs go:
1. Grab an enamel pan or metal tray Big enough to spread out, enamel-coated so it wonât rust. Think baking tray vibes.
2. Layer 2â3 sheets of tissue paper in the bottom Fold them to fit! Doesnât need to be cuteâjust functional. đŞ
3. Soak the tissue paper with water Add more than you thinkâthen pour off any extra.
4. Lay a sheet of baking parchment on top This keeps moisture coming through without soaking your paint. đ
5. Add your acrylics right on the parchment Theyâll stay wet overnightâsometimes longer. No more wasted paint!
đĄ Bonus: Leave it uncovered to avoid mold. I reuse the tissue paper for months.
Save this for your next studio dayâand let me know if you try it! đĽ Full videoâs up nowâlink in bio!

Fixing a Stalled Abstract PaintingJackie Schomburg-Abstract Art & Creative Wellness2025-08-10 | If youâve ever hit a wall with your artwork or felt like giving up on a piece, this is your reminder that itâs totally okay to rework it. Using your own collage papersâespecially ones created through play and experimentationâcan bring unexpected texture, contrast, and energy to your art. I created the papers I used using a gel plate in Part 1 of this 2-video series here: youtu.be/v-h3TW0h6kE
In this video, I show you how I rescued a stalled abstract mixed media piece by layering in hand-painted collage papers. This process-based approach is all about creative problem solving, intuitive art-making, and trusting the magic of mixed media.
Watch as I walk you through how I transformed a painting I didnât love using simple tools like matte medium, scissors, and handmade collage papers. Whether youâre new to abstract art or a seasoned mixed media artist, this video will inspire you to revisit your unfinished work with fresh eyes and renewed confidence.
This is a great exercise in releasing perfectionism, letting go of fear, and embracing process over outcome.

Sometimes I purposely choose my least favorite palette, tools Iâve avoided, or techniques Iâve told myself I âdonât get.â Why? Because that discomfort is where growth happens.
đĄYou donât need to love every layer. You just need to show up and try things. And guess what? Even in the mess, youâll likely discover something beautifulâmaybe even a version of yourself thatâs braver than yesterday.

Youâre not aloneâespecially if itâs gathering dust. In this video, I walk you through one of my favorite low-pressure, high-reward ways to play: making colorful, textured collage papers on a gel plate using tissue paper.
This process-based session is Part 1 of a 2-part series all about creative exploration. Thereâs no planâjust paint, texture tools, a brayer, and some tissue paper. I even break out my Stabilo Woodys to see what happens :) The result? A beautiful stash of semi-transparent collage layers you can use in future mixed media projects.
Whether you're new to gel printing or youâve done a few pulls and felt stuck, this is your permission to experiment. The thinness of tissue paper makes layering a dream in your art journal, sketchbook, or collage work.
If you're an abstract mixed media artist, into intuitive art, or just craving some creative play without pressure, come watch me loosen up and explore in this inventive & experimental gel plate printing sessionâmistakes welcome!

Watch as I work across 18 tiny 2âx2â squares on two pages, experimenting with bold vs subtle contrast in each mini abstract painting.
This process-based art session is all about visual decision-making: How much contrast is too much? How little is too little? I try both subtle transitions and high-contrast extremes to show how small contrast changes can have a major impact on the overall composition.
If youâre interested in developing your own creative style, building confidence in abstract composition, or simply want to watch a relaxing time-lapse of tiny art experiments, this video is for you.

In this video, I share what happened when I challenged myself to try abstract florals for the first timeâeven though I knew it might go badly. As an intuitive mixed media artist, I believe that creativity thrives when we give ourselves permission to play, experiment, and fail forward. This video is an invitation to make messy art and embrace imperfection.
Whether you're new to abstract mixed media painting or stuck in a rut with your current creative practice, this video will encourage you to let go of perfectionism and explore something new. I walk you through my honest process in this process and explain how showing up as a beginner is the first step to building long-term creative confidence.
Letâs normalize the learning curve. Letâs be brave enough to make âbadâ art in order to grow. Because if you want to do something well, it's absolutely worth the risk of doing it "badly" at first!

In this video, Iâll show you how intentionally pushing past your comfort zoneâmaking that one extra brushstroke, adding an unexpected color, or covering something you loveâcan help you build confidence and overcome the fear of "messing up."
By practicing this approach regularly, youâll realize that taking risks in your mixed media art doesnât lead to disasterâit actually helps you discover new possibilities, embrace imperfections, and develop a fearless creative process.
