Benchmarking the 6-core Ryzen 5 5500X3D AM4 CPU against my previous budget recommendation, the Ryzen 5 7500F, to see if there's a new budget gaming champ.
X3D chips have received a lot of hype, and AMD are capitalising on it by cramming extra 3D V-cache into everything they can. At the budget end of the market, the latest model to benefit is the Ryzen 5 5500X3D - which, at around £165 is about 50% more expensive than the newer, AM5-based Ryzen 5 7500F. This price difference is more than offset by the savings in using DDR4 over DDR5, especially during the 2026 RAMageddon, but does the performance warrant the purchase?
