So I made this animation in a bit more than a week, from 2/17 to 2/26. About 800 frames, rendered in about five hours.
Fun fact: It took ~38 seconds for each "gunshot" frame while the first few frames took ~8 seconds to render.
I always wanted to make a fan animation for the web series RWBY but I got sidetracked because I didn't know how to import the models. I looked into it again when someone posted an idea for team PYNC, which I thought would be epic to animate, until I realized there was no way I could possibly do that.
I settled for Ruby vs Yang. Since I still didn't have the characters, I made my own very quickly. For my next animation I'll likely be converting to MMD models, which I've already downloaded. I'll probably keep doing these since it only took a week, and my workflow will hopefully get better.
The animation itself is 90% done, but I still have to:
Fix the characters' hair so that it looks more like RWBY. Right now they're symmetrical.
Have Yang's hair be less static to the environment, probably using shape keys.
Use surface emission instead of volume emission for Yang's fire, so that it renders faster.
The last 10% of the animation (double punch, Ruby teleports away, smiles and waves.
Clean up some of the animation frames.
Smoke / particle system for Yang's hair so that it actually looks like it's on fire.
And music, of course! I haven't decided what to use.
