While boondocking (dry camping) in the Arizona High Country, we stumbled upon a campsite belonging to Toby Keith. Or was it? Free camping in Arizona is plentiful thanks to many BLM and US Forest Service camping areas. Arizona holds many surprises, including beautiful, free boondocking (camping) in the high country, also known as the Mogollon Rim just north of Payson Arizona. Arizonas terrain is vast and varied ranging from the beautiful desert to the cool pines and forested areas. Its easy to find free, boondocking camping and areas to RV in the summer and winter months in Arizona.
We cover boondocking (free camping) on the Mogollon Rim and a brief tour through the Painted Desert of the Petrified Forest National Forest. The Mogollon Rim is located in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest which is North of Payson Arizona.
We really enjoy creating RV travel videos about our new full-time RV life and hope that you will join us we set out in our RV traveling the USA.

RVing mistakes happen and RV travel days are not without their mishaps, disasters and problems! Even experienced RVers who travel full time experience travel day problems once in a while. Long RV travel days, problems with the GPS, taking a wrong road, nowhere to turn around, all of this can lead to mishaps and disaster that can lead to an unpleasant day or stay, whether youre boondocking or traveling to your next RV park or campground.
This particular RV travel day started out great! We left on time, everything worked as it should on the RV, and the GPS was set for our next destination. Something went wrong along the way and our 4 hour travel day became a 9 hour day with the sun setting fast! What happened? Were experienced RVers! How did this particular RV travel day go from good to disaster? What decisions led us to an unfortunate travel mishap of getting our 22,000 pound RV stuck? Why did the inside of our coach get rattled for over 4 hours?
RV boondocking, as you know, is our preferred method of living! There are some precautions and planning you must take when traveling to, scouting out and finding a boondocking site. In this case, we were partially familiar with the boondocking area, just not the specific sites. Unfamiliarity, a fast setting sun and fatigued decision making led us down the wrong path (road) and into a travel mishap (disaster) that required assistance to get us out! We hope by sharing this information, it may prevent you from having your own RV travel day mishap or disaster. Go boondocking, just be sure to learn from our lessons on RV travel day!
