Russia's Soviet Union invaded Japan at the tail end of WW2. Invading both the puppet state of Manchukuo and the Kuril Islands. Which are just north of Hokkaido. Neither Russia nor Japan have signed a peace treaty to settle this, this means the two countries are technically still at war.
