In 1983, Rush made one of the biggest decisions of their career: they walked away from longtime producer Terry Brown, the man who had helped shape their sound for nearly a decade. Then their chosen replacement, Steve Lillywhite, backed out at the last minute. By the time Rush began making Grace Under Pressure, they were dealing with uncertainty, creative tension, and a producer they increasingly struggled to trust.
