In this episode, an electrical engineer and I walk through the recent shop upgrade of two pieces of 3 phase equipment. We used a VFD to allow these machines to function in my single phase shop.
My friend, Joe, explains the difference between single phase and 3 phase power.
He then talks about some of the options for dealing with 3 phase equipment in a single phase shop.
He explains the process of sizing the VFD and the wire gauge for the job.
He covers in great detail the upgrades that he made to the individual machines.
And he also demonstrates how one might set up a VFD for a piece of equipment in a 'quick-and-dirty' way!
Lastly, we talk about how someone might find a qualified electrician to make the kind of upgrades that Joe made here.
