If you make rubber molds and pour castings in resin you need a hot box! Unless of course you’re rich and can afford to heat your studio to a nice warm temperature. But if you’re like me and your studio is cold enough in the winter that you need to dress warm, you need hot box. That’s because to work reliably and predictably silicone rubber and urethane resin need to be at the right temperature. Right around 75 degrees F (24 C) is perfect.
If you are comfortable the rubber and resin will be comfortable.
Not to mention epoxy clays, putty’s, adhesives and paint. They all love it warm too!
I made this hotbox on the cheap using an inexpensive reptile terrarium heating kit and an old refrigerator. And it works perfectly!
