Game #523 is Grandia III on PS2, a JRPG

Yuki is an aspiring young pilot, who wants to follow in the footsteps of his hero, Sky Captain Schmidt. With his friend he builds his own airplane, planning to fly across the sea to the nearby continent. He takes off with his new plane, but it struggles to pull up, when his mother Miranda pops out of the copilot seat chiding him for trying to leave.

They fly by a carriage carrying a young girl being chased by bandits, and swoop down to try scaring them off...
