Let's take a close look at a large router insert plate that I'll be using to build a router table with a palm router. This plate has several advantages over the ones we discussed in the previous video. It offers a larger surface area, and the metal is thinner, which is beneficial because we don't have to route a very deep rabbet to insert the plate. The wood slides smoothly over it, making the extra surface area a significant advantage. Additionally, the increased surface area underneath the plate provides more support, and since the metal is thinner, more of the board's thickness will remain after routing the necessary recess for the insert.

The plate comes with a side fence that adjusts using screws that slide in grooves. This fence can be adjusted to open on both sides of the router bit, although it can be challenging to set up due to components and screws that tend to get stuck easily.

The insert plate only includes two reducer rings, which are quite simple. However, I'm confident I can make additional ones from acrylic or wood veneer if I need to or if these get damaged.
One downside is that it doesn't have a hole for a starter pin, and given the plate's thinness, it's unlikely I could add one that would securely hold a starter pin.
These router support plates come with pre-drilled holes to attach the base of a palm router underneath, or alternatively, a router lift system, which I don't have yet. But soon I will show some ideas that I have to make my router table.
