To mark the 100th anniversary of Route 66, I’m taking a cross-country roadtrip on the Mother Road — along with a caravan of classic cars, Route 66 historians and the Big Texan Steak Ranch from Amarillo, who’s towing their giant fiberglass steer Big Moo the entire way from Santa Monica to Chicago!

In part 1, we navigate the chaos of Los Angeles from the Santa Monica pier to Beverly Hills and Pasadena, then on to Rancho Cucamonga and up over the Cajon Pass to the desert, where we visit Victorville, Barstow, Daggett, Newberry Springs, Amboy, Goffs and Needles!
