"I asked, and The world opened," a video by artist Rossitza Todorova, 2019, www.rossitza.art.

"I asked, and The World Opened" is a 50-minute video depicting a single sunset from two perspectives. The camera faces East, while a mirror placed to the West reflects the scene behind the camera. Symbolically, the circular mirror represents the Future, strategically positioned in the middle of the landscape, disrupting the view of the East or Past. As the video unfolds, the shifting light gradually descends upon the Eastern Mountains while the circle in the mirror cradles the fading light from the West, akin to a sacred chalice slowly draining. Through this work, I invite contemplation of the beauty inherent in the natural landscape and the mesmerizing play of light. However, amidst the enchantment, I also seek to evoke a sense of melancholy, prompting viewers to ponder the consequences of our actions on the environment and the uncertainties that lie ahead in the future.
