In 552 AD, the Eastern Roman Empire launched a final offensive to retake Italy from the Ostrogoths. Led by the general Narses, the Roman forces confronted King Totila near the town of Taginae. What followed was one of the decisive battles of the Gothic War, and the beginning of the end for the Ostrogothic Kingdom.
