Rolling Ronny for C64 by Starbyte/Virgin, loaded from tape.
So... rolling ronny. Fun game on disk. Like Turbo Outrun before it, suffers from bad tape mastering, which it was treated very harshly for in commodore format - particularly, you have to load two presentation sections before you get to a playable game, one of which absolutely should just be a loading screen at best. .
It's not Turbo Outrun bad, of course - you're still in the game within five minutes, but as soon as you die, you're punted back to 000, no continues - so essentially load the whole thing again. But still, other games also had this type of multiload and were not destroyed like this one was, so.... it doesn't super make sense.
Which is sort of the rub though - you have to be not just good, but great, to get away with this presentation loads on tape, and rolling ronny.... is only good. Honestly, though, if i didn't make you reload the whole game, just let you continue the level for a while longer, I suspect it would have had a better reception. Still, always sad when the real problem is a reviewer in a bad move (see also Catalypse and Zzap)
