This video shows an activity proposed by the ESA's Advanced Concepts Team during the ESTEC Open Day which took place on Sunday, 5 of October 2014 in Noordwijk, Netherlands.
The visitors had the opportunity to discover what it feels like to be on Mars using a 3D virtual reality head-mounted display, the Oculus Rift.
The region of Mars shown here is the Gale Crater reconstructed from ESA's Mars Express satellite images (Vertical exageration x4). Data used are HSI colour composites and DTMs provided jointly by the Freie Universität Berlin and the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
