Unicorn Heads | Roland JX-3P vs JX-03 | Analog vs Boutique! @UnicornHeads | Uploaded 5 years ago | Updated 2 hours ago
Side by side comparison of the 1980's analog Roland JX-3P polyphonic synthesizer and the modern Roland JX-03 Boutique sound module. An age old debate: Digital vs Analog!
Both synths were sequenced via MIDI from Ableton Live. Aside from digital vs analog, the other main difference between these two synths is the vintage 3P has 6 voices and the Boutique 03 only has 4. In this demo the chords are all 4 note chords so the comparison is more similar. Obviously the 3P will sound bigger if you play with two hands and/or use 6 note chords! The MIDI implementation on the JX-3P is a little wonky (MIDI was just invented at the time!) so I think some of the glitchy-ness you hear is because of some wacky MIDI stuff going on.
