Gameplay comparison between ROG Ally X, ROG Ally Z1 and ROG Ally Z1 Extreme. 12 games tested and average frame rate aka FPS measured.

ROG Ally X and ROG Ally Z1 Extreme both have the same Z1 Extreme processor. Main differences are:
RAM: ROG Ally X has faster RAM and more RAM overall (24GB of LPDDR5X-7500 RAM vs 16GB LPDDR5-6400 of the original Ally)
Battery: ROG Ally X has 80Wh battery - huge improvement from 40Wh battery of the original Ally
Motherboard: ROG Ally X has a completely redesigned motherboard. I'm guessing this contributes to how they fixed the broken SD card reader which was a problem in many original Ally units. Whether it's fully fixed or not - we'll have to wait and see. My guess is that it won't be an issue in the Ally X. See the motherboards in this video: youtube.com/watch?v=9iHmnSGUPqI
Cooling: They added an additional cooling hole in the Ally X. New thinner fans, which ASUS claims leave more space for air to pass between each blade "while still increasing overall airflow by 10%". They also say "Up to 24% Airflow improved", I'm guess that means for the entire device. Whether those numbers are accurate, we would need to see a video on how exactly did they measure it.
SSD: ROG Ally X has a full size 2280 M.2 SSD. You get 1TB of storage by default. SSD can be swapped much easier.
Ports: Ally X has 2x USB-C ports, original Ally only has one USB-C port. They removed the XG Mobile port from the Ally X! Original Ally had the XG Mobile port for powerful ASUS eGPUs (up to RTX 4090). This raises the question if XG Mobile eGPUs are being supported in ANY future devices, since we haven't seen the port in newest laptops either. However, I think for most people, the additional USB-C port is way more useful.
Thumbsticks: I liked the thumbsticks in the old Ally better, but the ones in Ally X should be more durable according to ASUS. Thumbstick modules are now also swappable, meaning you can replace them easier. As an example, some company could design Hall Effect sticks replacements for the Ally X and you could upgrade the sticks in the future.
Buttons: The M1 and M2 back buttons are now much smaller in the Ally X. This should help prevent accidental button presses and in my experience the new design is just better.
ROG Ally X is basically a ROG Ally Remastered. It's definitely better than the original Ally. In terms of FPS, there isn't a huge improvement, but there is SOME difference. However, there is a huge difference between Z1 vs Z1 Extreme processors.
