Book Chat With Pat | ROCKET SUMMER: Life on Mars by Tracy K Smith @BookChatWithPat8668 | Uploaded July 2024 | Updated October 2024, 20 minutes ago.
ROCKET SUMMER is a new summer reading event, created by @michaelk.vaughan8617 in which we are reading CLASSIC SCIENCE FICTION for the month of July. At the suggestion of one of my subscribers, I am sharing in this video a brief discussion of the former US Poet Laureate, Tracy K. Smith, and her Pulitzer Prize-winning volume, LIFE ON MARS. This is a book of poetry that she wrote largely as an elegy for her father, Floyd William Smith, an engineer who helped to develop the Hubble Space Telescope. So today, I am combining Rocket Summer and Poetry Thursday with this discussion of Smith and a reading from her collection.
The month is focused in the following way:
Week 1: The Beginnings of SF in the 19th Century through 1939
Week 2: SF from 1940 through 1949
Week 3: SF from 1950 through 1959
Week 4: SF from 1960 through 1969
