The Lake Dolores water park (Rock-a-Hula) sits right off I-15 in Newberry Springs, California, smack in the middle of the Mojave between LA and Vegas. Bob Byers dug the original lake and campground in the early ’60s and named it after his wife. Over the years it turned into a wild, no-frills water park with those steep metal slides people still talk about, then went through a couple of rebrands before finally shutting down for good around 2004. These days the place draws drone pilots, skateboarders, photographers, and explorers looking for something a little off the beaten path.
