In this weeks Rock Drums lesson.
For the verse
I chose to play 2 different patterns from the "7 tried-and-true basic eighth-note kick/snare patterns."(together forming a 2 bar phrase)
Playing accented 8th note ride pattern on a tightly closed hi-hat, (backbeat 2 and 4, regular snare.)
For the chorus
again playing a 2 bar groove pattern
In the first bar I played a straight quarter note ride on the bell of the ride.
Playing rim shots, I displaced the snare on the downbeat of "1" and on the "and of 2" and played a regular snare backbeat on 4.
In the second measure of the 2 bar phrase also playing rim shot on the "and of 1" and on 3 I played a double backbeat (3 and.)
When the 2 bar phrase comes around the second time I also do a double backbeat on 3 but this time substituting the tom for the snare.
As for the kick, it is displaced on the "and of 1" and on the "and of 3" during the duration of the chorus.
