Made by the famous Roberts Brand, released in 1957 this battery player flopped from the word go.
running from a 6v lantern battery and feature a Garrard BA1 45rpm deck it was plagued with issues, the deck was released in 1956 by garrard and was avalible for different battery voltages, cossor used it first in there model 544 battery record player and wete very reliable, constant speed which you could alter via a speed adjustment for when battery's got low and boosted a 100 hours on one battery.
so why did Roberts launch become a failure, Roberts ran from 6v for amp and motor, garrard made a special winding of the motor to accommodate this, yet people complained straight away of speed issues , slowing down hard to set correctly, also saying the audio wasn't great.
Roberts recalled the players back, contacting customers to protect there company name, hence this set doesn't turn up very often.

As for mine, well it had clearly been used, there was wear on the screw for battery so had been used quite a bit. connected a 6v battery and it came to live motor spinning, cartridge dead but a mild hiss from the amp, put a temporary cartridge in and a disc on, audio clear speed issues,
After fidderling with the motor numerics times adjust the speed regulator and cleaning the turntable rim , idler wheel it will keep a constant speed, slightly over 45rpm but not enough to notice.
as to why Roberts had so much issue I can only presume it was down to the motor governor not set correctly via garrard for the battery voltage.
As for audio it's not to bad if anything better than cossors 544 player which was released few months prior
