In a year that’s already been packed with the passing of more icons than could be imagined, one of the cruelest twists of fate had to have been the brutal slaying of director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle. The circumstances of their deaths, which have resulted in the arrest of their son Nick Reiner, are quite grisly, and what makes them especially cruel is that now, when people think of Reiner, they’ll think of the horrible way he died rather than the amazing work he put into the world. We don’t think that’s right, and in a time when everyone seems obsessed with the circumstances surrounding his death, we’d like to take a different approach, focusing on the incredible films he brought into the world—many of which stand the test of time as all-time classics, particularly his haunting ode to childhood, Stand by Me.
