But it’s not all fantasy. Often there is a storm brewing, and when it comes to enjoying, restoring and maintaining these magnificent machines, it takes determination to weather it. Searching for parts alone can be like diving to the depths of the deepest ocean only to begin your needle in a haystack search. And there’s never a guarantee the project will be complete or run. Taking this road is not for the faint of heart.
Then again no one every changed the automotive world without getting their hands caked in engine oil. A passion for classics may not be an easy endeavour, but one that’s necessary. These vehicles are more than beautiful ornaments and museum decorations. They are living, breathing, vibrating pieces of natural history. They are young and spritely despite being long retired. They are hungry to inspire through their engineering marvels of their time. They are ready to teach us lessons no longer taught on the roads. And eager to recant tales of legendary adventures.
But perhaps more importantly, they are our past, and the key to our automotive future at the same time.
