All in aid of the Special Olympics Ireland, a world record attempt was held in the Fair Green in Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland on the 17th of May 2009. The title of the world record was the Largest Ever Ceile. Because of where the fundraiser was being held, it was decided that the Siege Of Ennis would be the dance that everybody would perform. :)
After some torrential rain, the clouds broke and a glimmer of sunshine came through, just giving enough time for the Kilfenora Ceili Band to tune up and play a few reels while the people of Clare tried for the world record.
The event was covered by Clare FM Radio who made regular broadcasts from the main stage throughout the day and also streamed video of the whole event live over their website.
Thanks to the thousands who showed up and braved the elements for a great cause.
