An elf on a horse can be seen riding into Rivendell from afar. We see Rivendell in the depths of a valley. Frodo walks out onto his balcony and looks out on Rivendell. He walks around with Sam and suddenly comes across Merry and Pippin who run to him and they hug, laughing.
