The Rival Sons frontman has struck out on his own with 'Weapons of Beauty,' a debut solo album written during a period of seclusion in California. Speaking with us on camera, he discusses finding inspiration in his deepest vulnerabilities.
Having put off making the album for a while, Jay Buchanan has finally given us what we've been waiting for. To find the necessary headspace, he retreated to a friend's bunker in the Mojave Desert for several months, far from human contact.
Alternating between his orderly city life and a candlelit makeshift den, Jay Buchanan spent months searching for his muse. With only moon and coyotes for company, he drew inspiration from the light and silence of the landscape. These two powerful, fertile sources allowed 'Weapons of Beauty' to veer away from his signature rock'n'roll sound and venture into the desolation of folk and country.
