Come for a pov video of the ride Rita Queen of Speed Alton Towers. I use my gopro 12 black to record this ride. This video was taken in the 2026 season. I have put the links for Alton Towers website, merlin's website as they run all the big theme parks in England ( thrope park, LEGOLAND and Chessington World Of Adventures) and gopro website below. I also will put the address down below of Chessington world of adventures.
Rita (originally known as Rita: Queen of Speed) is a steel launched roller coaster located at Alton Towers in Alton, Staffordshire, England, UK. It was manufactured by Intamin and opened on 1 April 2005. Two years after the opening of Rita, Heide Park in Germany (also owned by Merlin Entertainments) opened a nearly identical roller coaster called Desert Race.
The ride first opened on 1 April 2005 as Rita: Queen of Speed. It was built at a cost of £8 million.[2]
In 2010, the ride would be rethemed as part of the new Dark Forest area.
Following the launch track is a series of curves shaped like a figure-eight when viewed overhead, which contains three airtime hills. Rita has separate areas for loading and unloading.

History
The first details for this roller coaster were revealed in 2000. It was planned to be the tallest inverted roller coaster at a height of 81 metres tall with a 61 metres tall vertical loop, which would have been the highest inversion.[1] The plans were reduced in scale, with the final coaster being 50.9 metres tall.
The attraction originally opened as the Jubilee Odyssey on 25 May 2002 to commemorate the golden jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
After the first season of operation, some areas of track were adjusted and lowered in height. This included the Horseshoe, the hammerhead, and the Sidewinder.
For the 2014 season, the ride was renamed to just Odyssey.
In 2016, the colour scheme was changed from red track with white supports to yellow track with slate grey supports.[2]
