The days of the Portland and Western having SD9s, GP9s, and an SD7 on their roster is now a thing of the past unfortunately. Due to Genesee and Wyoming failing to abide by the EPA's "Clean Air Act' guidelines, they were forced to either upgrade or retire and disable more than 70 locomotives throughout the entire G&W system, and that included the infamous PNWR 9s.

Three of these locomotives (1501, 1801, and 1852) are seen here dead in tow, because of them being retired and disabled, but being sent out after being purchased by BUGX (Dieselmotive Company, Inc.).

The last locomotive being covered in this video, PNWR 1854, is seen LEADING the Harbor Turn from Tigard to Harbor. Due to circumstances that worked out in our favor, we were able to pull off this one last moment for it to lead a train before it was to be put back on the Rock Train until it's impending retirement from the roster. Fortunately, even though it was disabled, it has been donated to the Oregon Rail Heritage Center and will be restored in to full Southern Pacific lively and (RUMOR HAS IT) will be put back in operating condition. At the current time of this upload, it's currently being held on the Albany and Eastern Railroad for restoration and repairs.
